Mycoforestation

Mycoforestry is the management of forests and fungi in forested systems. We value biodiversity, mycelial networks, soil fertility and sustainability. If you own 10+ acres of forest in Ontario you are eligible to save on property taxes by 75%! As a registered forest plan approver by the MFTIP program from the Government of Ontario, we create and certify forest plans to save homeowners money and support them in achieving their forest goals. We excel in forest management with professional map making, assessment of mycorrhizal and edible gourmet mushroom value and location, foraging education, afforestation using succession and treeplanting to support the biodviersity of the fauna, flora and funga. Endemic and rare fungi can also be identified for conservation and land attraction value purposes.

In depth Forest Services

Map Making and Site Visit Inventories

We provide professional map and forest inventories to meet your forestry goals while facilitating fungal services. Identify forests health decline, future forest composition, thinning and tree releasing operations.

Mushroom Occurrence Probability Maps

We offer real-time mushroom occurrence probability maps with summaries to obtain the highest potential for forest fungal products. DO NOT miss out on your morrels, king boletes, Lobster mushrooms, Lactarius indigo etc... If you are interested in receiving monthly summaries of mushroom probability occurrence maps contact us below.

Afforestation

Afforestation is the renewal of forest on lands that were not forest. This process may be facilitated with fungi by mycelial installations where fungi help increase fertility, moisture retention, and long-term forest complexity. Dual mycorrhizal plants are selected to foster a transition of fungal diversity in the ecosystem.  This system has the highest carbon sink potential to mitigate climate change.

Closed Canopy Systems for Mycoforestry

Forests offer high-value timber and can be harvested while increasing biodiversity, mushroom yield potential and ecosystem services like hunting, soil temperature buffer and water filtration. Using closed canopy harvesting systems we can actually encourage the growth of certain edible and mycorrhizal mushrooms, encouraging forest regeneration and supplement income with non-wood forest products.

Fungal Conservation and Innovation

We offer the identification of Rare fungi by FunDIS organization and endangered fungi from Cosewic in order to develop fungal conservation strategies in Ontario. Fungi have the ability to remediate disturbed lands, which are created with forestry practices. Fungi can break down lignin into several products including paper, textiles, mycobricks, food, dyes and provide soil fertility for the future. Fungi can help re-purpose waste products into economic opportunities and increase resilience (recovery) from disturbance. Visit Mycostories for more interesting bussinesses and news related to fungi.

Fungal Conservation and Innovation

We offer DNA sequencing to verify potentially endemic and rare fungi to have conservation statuses set apart from other nature preserves and conservation areas. This can be a compelling tourist attraction especially with the uptake in mycotourism and mycological festivals internationally.
